What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?

My journey towards becoming a therapist was inspired by my experiences and a deep desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others. After returning home from my deployment in Afghanistan, I witnessed firsthand the struggles that many men faced, including issues with alcohol, PTSD, and domestic violence. These experiences ignited a passion within me to help those who were suffering and in need of mental health support.

To pursue this path, I became a mental health specialist, responsible for overseeing the mental well-being of 300 soldiers. This role allowed me to gain valuable experience in supporting individuals with mental health challenges within a military setting.

As a Behavioral Health Associate, I facilitated groups and monitored the mental health of patients. It was during this time that I came across information about becoming a therapist. Intrigued by the potential to make a difference on a deeper level, I decided to pursue a career as a therapist.

Motivated to enhance my knowledge and skills, I enrolled in the Social Work Program at Aurora University. This educational journey was marked by years of hard work, dedication, and a genuine passion for learning and growing as a mental health professional.

Through my studies and hands-on experiences, I acquired the necessary qualifications and licensure to become a Social Worker and a therapist. I am grateful for the opportunity to combine my personal experiences, compassion, and professional training to support individuals in their healing journeys.

The inspiration to become a therapist stemmed from a deep sense of empathy and a genuine desire to assist others in navigating their mental health challenges. It is a privilege to be able to walk alongside individuals as they work towards healing, growth, and a brighter future.

Working with me, it's important to know that I approach therapy with compassion and a genuine desire to help you on your journey towards change and growth. I believe in creating a safe and non-judgmental space where you can freely express yourself and explore your thoughts and emotions.

However, I also emphasize the importance of active participation and commitment to the therapeutic process. Change and progress require effort and dedication, and I will encourage you to actively engage in the work necessary to achieve your goals. I will provide guidance, support, and evidence-based interventions, but ultimately, you are responsible for implementing the strategies discussed and taking steps towards positive change.

While therapy can be a transformative and healing experience, it is not a passive endeavor. It requires your willingness to be open, honest, and willing to explore and challenge yourself. Together, we will collaborate to identify and overcome obstacles, develop coping skills, and cultivate resilience.

In our therapeutic relationship, you can expect me to be supportive, empathetic, and non-judgmental. I will listen attentively to your concerns, validate your experiences, and provide feedback and guidance. My goal is to empower you and help you develop the skills and insights necessary to navigate life's challenges independently.

It is my belief that through our collaborative efforts and your commitment to the therapeutic process, we can work together to foster personal growth, emotional well-being, and positive change.

Is Yoga, Mindfulness, and Meditation covered by Insurance?

Personalized Yoga is separate from therapy. Only Clinical Therapy is covered by insurance and I am not in the therapist role when I am performing these services.  Mindfulness and Meditation can be a part of therapy.
